Narrative
LAS CRUCES, NM – A woman is facing a number of charges in connection to a collision that claimed the life of a bicyclist in Las Cruces on Saturday.
Police say 39-year-old Vianey Marquez Adams was driving a 2020 Jeep Wrangler on Melendres Street near W. Court Avenue against traffic. She sideswiped a parked vehicle before colliding with a cyclist who was riding south.
The bicyclist, identified as 70-year-old Roberto M. Granado, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Adams was taken into custody and charged with vehicular homicide, driving while under the influence, reckless driving, child abuse, and three counts of leaving the scene of a crash and driving left of center.
Investigators believe Adams was involved in a hit-and-run crash prior to fatally striking the cyclist.
