NARRATIVE:
SANTA FE, NM – A 43-year-old woman died, and two children sustained injuries last Tuesday when a vehicle struck them on the west side of Santa Fe.
The accident happened after 6:10 p.m. along Paseo Nopal, which runs from north to south between NM-599 and West Alameda Street.
The driver and vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene.
Medics transported the female pedestrian, identified as Monique Maes, to an area hospital, where she died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Two children, an 8-year-old and a 12-year-old, also went to the hospital. They have since been released.
Police are currently looking for 29-year-old Mario Israel Mendez in connection to the accident. They say Mendez will likely face charges that include vehicular homicide and child abuse.
The investigation is ongoing.
