Narrative
LOS CHAVEZ, NM – One person died Tuesday in a crash involving a train and a vehicle in central Valencia County.
Emergency teams responded to the area of Elaine Drive and Highway 314 in Los Chavez shortly after 7 p.m. This is on the north side of the city, west of NM-47 and the Rio Grande River.
Police say that a Rail Runner train hit a vehicle on the tracks. There’s no word yet about what caused the vehicle to enter the train’s path.
The driver of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries. Authorities will notify next of kin before releasing the victim’s name to the public.
Officials urged motorists to avoid the area and find alternate routes while emergency teams worked to clear the scene.
